GuestFinder Fact Sheet

1. What is GuestFinder?
GuestFinder is a web-based directory of people available for radio, TV, and newspaper interviews. The site is designed for the media professional and others who wish to quickly and easily find guests or interview subjects. It is a subsidiary of NewsBuzz, Inc.

Individuals as well as associations can become members: (Either one is just $249/year.)

2. How much does it cost?
A 12-month membership is just $249. The membership can begin at any time during the year.

NOTE: Once your listing appears and you have approved it, there are no refunds. (So when you first review your GuestFinder page, please review it carefully and check all links.) We do not accept all guests, so if you are not sure if your topic is a suitable one for radio interviews, please contact Lorilyn Bailey at guestfinder@gmail.com.

3. What does the membership fee cover?
You receive the following:

  • Exposure on a web site designed for the media professional to easily locate you, for twelve months.
  • GuestFinder web space in which you have the opportunity to provide the following information:
  • Background Information (Up to 150 words)
  • Photo
  • Your list of up to 10 questions that you can answer for the media professional's use during the interview
  • Link to your email or to your agent or publicist email.
  • Three additional links: Suggested links: your existing home page, an online bookstore, and a related web site with information useful to the media professional. We will also provide links to your YouTube videos and other sites within the body of your GuestFinder page as needed.
  • All guests are categorized by topic to make it easy for the media professional to find you. See application form about topics and keywords.

When you are listed with Guestfinder, you will:

  • Be easily accessible to thousands of TV, radio, print, and Internet media professionals who are looking for guests or interview sources.
  • If you are an author, you will expose your book to the casual web site visitors.
4. Can anyone be listed as a guest?
People identified as authors must have their books that have valid ISBNs. (In other words, booklet authors are not considered authors for GuestFinder purposes.)

GuestFinder reserves the right to: 1) reject any inappropriate listing 2) delete any listing from the directory and to withhold the listing fee if the person has misrepresented himself or herself in any way or if he or she does not act reasonably as an interview subject.

5. How does the media know about this service?
We contact more than 1,000 radio, TV, and newspaper organizations several times a week. As appropriate, we also advertise in magazines and newspapers that cater to media professionals.

GuestFinder was officially "open for business" on January 1, 1997, and media contact began at that time. Unlike our competitors, we are also listed throughout the Internet on journalism resource sites.

Guests listed in GuestFinder are also encouraged to spread the word by notifying their local radio, TV, and newspapers of the service, linking to www.guestfinder.com from their web sites, and including the web address in their promotional materials.

PLEASE NOTE: We are also extremely interested in hearing about media interviews that resulted from a GuestFinder contact.

6. How long is a membership period?
Twelve months

7. Why should I sign up For this service?
If you are an author seeking to bring attention to your book, you will find no other promotional activity at any lower price that reaches a greater number of people. At $249 a year, that's a great investment!

When you are interviewed as a guest on radio or television, you obtain time on the air that would cost you hundreds, and sometimes tens of thousands, of dollars if you paid to advertise on the same show. If you take a look at the top-selling books, especially trade paper, on such lists as Publishers Weekly, you'll find that nearly all of the "top ten" have one thing in common, and that is media exposure.

8. Why would media professionals want to use this site?
Right now, media professionals depend on radio/TV magazines, hard-copy directories, personal contacts, personal research, and luck to find interesting guests. Guest information listed in printed material is two months to a year old by the time it reaches the hands of the media. Media people often have to pay for copies of the publications. Access to GuestFinder is free.

In comparison, the minute the guest information is added to the GuestFinder web site, it is immediately up to date and available to the media professional. If you, as a guest, come out with a new book, you can add that information to your web space during the year, or better yet, you can add any frequently changing information to your own home page that is linked from your GuestFinder page.

The world is full of interesting people, and GuestFinder makes it a little easier for the media to find those people.

9. May publishers or publicists sign up their clients with GuestFinder?
Absolutely. You need, of course, to have the guest's permission.

10. Who owns and operates GuestFinder?
Lorilyn Bailey, CEO of NewsBuzz, Inc. Her phone number is 919-878-9108, and her email is lorilynbailey@newsbuzz.com.

For more information, see: About GuestFinder

11. What if I want to change my GuestPage in the middle of the membership year?
Once your GuestPage is published to the GuestFinder site, you need to alert us of any necessary initial changes within 24 hours. (We will email you when we post it.) Email, web site links, and phone number information is always free to change. We want you to keep your site useful. More extensive page makeovers are subject to reasonable fees.

12. Must I list my telephone number in GuestFinder?
If you want to be easily accessible to the media, you must include a telephone number. Reporters and producers are usually working with deadlines, and they need to talk to you immediately. If you wish to list your agent's or publicist's number, that's fine.

13.
What if I don't get any requests for Interviews?
Because we cannot predict the actions of others, there is no guarantee that you will receive requests for interviews. However, because this web site has an easy-to-remember name, and because each week thousands of media people are reminded of its usefulness, and because the Web is used by millions of people worldwide, there is a very good chance you will be called *if* they find your information interesting enough to share with their audience. (By the way, the reality is that non-fiction authors are more likely to be called than are fiction authors because non-fiction authors often share real-life advice.)

14. What kind of photo do you need?
The ideal photo is a color, professional head shot. It should be a recent photo, taken no longer than three years ago. You can email it to us. We reserve the right to crop the photo according to our design needs (and to make your GuestFinder page the best it can be).

15. What happens if your server is down or if the Internet crashes or something? Do I get my money back?
Because occasional system down times are a fact of life on the Internet, there will be no refunds. As of yet, the GuestFinder has suffered no more than a few minutes of downtime.

16. Where is GuestFinder based?
GuestFinder is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States of America.

17. What else do you want to tell us?
NewsBuzz, Inc. and GuestFinder reserve the right to edit or delete from the GuestFinder web site any material deemed inappropriate by said owner; to refuse applications from guests whose subject areas are not newsworthy; to refuse applications from guests whose claims appear to be untrue, unreasonable, or illegal; to edit or delete provided information that isn't grammatically correct or clear; to make final editorial decisions; to remove links to pages with lengthy download times; to delete from its directory information on any guest deemed unsuitable for media interviews; all according to the discretion of the owner of NewsBuzz, Inc. and GuestFinder.com.

  • GuestFinder uses content provided by its members for GuestFinder pages in promotional materials to the media.
  • GuestFinder does not endorse or guarantee the services of any guest on this Web site and is simply a listing service.
  • We are not responsible for reimbursement for any downtime because of any system malfunctions anywhere on the Internet.
